Chocolate pancakes are one of the simplest and most delicious breakfast foods I love to cook. These pancakes never fail to excite my family, especially my children. It’s a great trick to get them out of bed too.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  • Break the egg in a bowl and whisk.
  • Add oil and proceed to whisk.
  • Add some milk and plain flour.
  • Mix to blend all the ingredients.
  • Put the cocoa powder in the batter.
  • Add salt, soda and sugar.
  • Mix until the mixture shapes into a smooth chocolate batter.
  • Pour a spoonful of the batter over a hot pan.
  • See the bubbles form on the batter.
  • Flip it and let it cook for a few more minutes.
  • Pour the chocolate ganache over the pancake or sprinkle with the powdered sugar.
  • The pancake is ready to serve.

 

This chocolate pancake is so easy to make, my kid can whip it up on his own.

Tips Time!

Here is my secret so I can prepare these deliciously fluffy chocolate pancakes at any time, especially for breakfast any day.

Instead of buying a premix pancake mixture, I measure and mix the dry ingredients myself—flour, cocoa powder, sugar, salt and baking soda—and store them in an airtight container, so it is ready to be used at any time.

On days when I feel like having chocolate pancakes, all I need to do is get this DIY pancake mixture out of the refrigerator and add in the wet ingredients which are the egg, milk and oil.

In the blink of an eye, the chocolate pancake batter is ready!

If you are a chocolate lover, you can even add dark chocolate chips into the batter.

To make your pancakes even better, just melt dark chocolate with heavy cream to make chocolate ganache.
