Unfortunately, it is the rainy season now – hence, your family’s beach holiday plan may have to be put on hold, but this should not stop you from getting beach-ready at home.

We are going to share with you a couple of tips to bring the beach home to you without the sand and surf!

I never realised how much my kids missed the sandy beach and its crystal-clear waters until I saw my youngest son making a beach-inspired craft using a sponge and his building blocks. He basically made his own oasis at home!

Starfish Cut Out Cookies

Equipment

  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 250 g Plain flour
  • 120 g Powdered sugar
  • 150 g Cold butter
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • 1/2 tsp  Vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 150 g Toasted skinless peanuts
  • Melted dark chocolate

Instructions

  • Combine flour, powdered sugar, salt, and cold butter in a mixer.
  • Add fresh milk and vanilla extract and continue mixing until the dough comes together.
  • Cover the dough with a cling wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Work on small portions of dough at a time, while keeping the rest of the dough chilled in the refrigerator.
  • Use a rolling pin to flatten a small portion of the dough.
  • Cut out dough using star-shaped cookie cutters.
  • Arrange cookie dough on a lined baking tray.
  • Roll the remaining dough and cut out cookie shapes until all dough is used up.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 170°C for 20 minutes.
  • Cool cookies on a wire rack.
  • Toast skinless peanuts until golden.
  • Coarsely blend toasted peanuts to resemble sand.
  • Melt dark chocolate in a double boiler.
  • Dip one side of the cookie surface in melted chocolate.
  • Press into crushed peanuts.
  • Repeat until all cookies are coated with dark chocolate and crushed peanuts.
  • Serve on crushed toasted peanuts to have your own sandy beach at home!
