What Is Organic Cotton?
Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Third-party certification organizations verify that organic producers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production. (courtesy of the OTA)

BENEFITS OF BAMBOO
Eco-Friendly
Bamboo is considered to be the fastest growing plant in the world, with some varieties growing 1 to 4 feet per day. Because of this, more bamboo can be harvested in a shorter amount of time in a smaller space without the use of fertilizers.
Once a bamboo plant is cut for harvesting, it can regrow and continue to be harvested yearly without being replanted. It is naturally disease and pest resistant, making it easy to grow organically without pesticides or other treatments which may be required when a plant is disease prone. When they are discarded, bamboo fabrics are 100 percent biodegradable.
Comfort
Bamboo fabric is known to be extremely soft. The silky feel is due to the nature of the fibers which are smooth and round. Bamboo fibers contain no sharp spurs to irritate the skin, resulting in a fabric that feels similar to silk or extremely soft cotton.
Antibacterial and Anti-fungal
Bamboo fibers contain a natural substance called bamboo kun, which provides antibacterial properties to the plant. This substance is present even after the fibers are processed into fabric. According to a study done by the Japanese Textile Inspection Association, the antibacterial properties of 100 percent bamboo fabric are still 70 percent effective after being washed 50 times. The antibacterial properties not only aid in killing disease causing bacteria, but are useful in preventing odors as well.
Bamboo fabrics are anti-fungal. According to Bamboo Home USA, a study on 50 athletes’ foot sufferers proved that wearing bamboo socks can eliminate athletes’ foot with no adverse effects. Participants in the study experienced less severe symptoms after two days and a complete recovery within six days of wearing the socks.
Temperature Regulation
Bamboo fibers contain micro-gaps, which provide excellent ventilation. These gaps trap cool air in the summer and warm air in the winter, providing temperature regulation to the wearer. Due to the porous nature of bamboo fabric, it is three to four times more absorbent than cotton.
Perspiration is absorbed and evaporated rapidly, which keeps the wearer cool and comfortable.
