What is Diastasis Recti and how to notice it?
Highlighted
Diastasis Recti or DR is the medical term to explain a separation between abdominal muscles. During pregnancy, abdominal tissues stretch to host your kid safely. After delivery, these tissues are supposed to go back to normal with the regulation of hormones levels. However, it’s not always the case, and some women will suffer from Diastasis Recti. This condition will make it hard for moms to get back a flat stomach along with other symptoms as backaches, pelvic floor strain, prolapse of organs in the lower abdominals, deterioration of posture, muscle imbalances and other aches and pains.
Usually, women suffering from DR will feel a gap in their abdominal when touching it while lied down. If any doubt, it is advised to visit your physician or a physiotherapist. They will run different kind of test before making a diagnosis.
How to heal it?
Surgical intervention can be a solution for severe cases. Nonetheless, customized exercises given by physiotherapist will be the most helpful. Indeed, to completely get rid of DR, you need to regain your muscle strength. Working on your recovery with a physiotherapist and weekly meeting is essential to ensure a safe recovery. Moreover, being aware of DR before and during pregnancy can also help you implement the right exercises in your daily routine and then avoid the risk of complication after your little one’s birth.
