How does the Haze Affect You And Your Baby?

For the past month, Malaysia has been plagued with haze which originates from massive fires in Sumatra, Indonesia. Transboundary haze in this part of the world was first recorded in 1972. Unfortunately, massive air pollution is now an annual affair which has progressively worsened over the years. Every year, the smog blankets Malaysia for even longer, and the Air Pollutant Index (API) this year in certain parts of the country is off the charts!

Paediatricians reportedly see a significant increase in children with respiratory infections and asthma exacerbations during haze season. Although the haze does not cause viral infections, it affects babies’ health in other ways. While toddlers and adults can easily wear a mask for relief, it is not recommended for babies as it may interfere with their breathing or suffocation.

Vulnerable newborns who are still building their immunity after being cocooned safely inside mummy are most susceptible when they breathe in polluted air that is at hazardous levels. Microscopic pollutants in the air gives our body’s defence a slip and causes damage to the lungs, heart and brain as it lodges into our respiratory and circulatory system. The poor quality of air weakens the bodies’ natural defense to diseases by damaging mucous membranes which leads to an increase of inflammation. If the respiratory systems are affected, your little one is at risk of asthma, bronchitis and a host of other medical emergencies which require immediate care.

Prevention is Better than Cure

“Prevention is better than cure” and this old adage is worth its mettle. During haze season, it is best to stay indoors, especially when the API exceeds 100. Haze consists of two major components, minute particles which you can see and toxic gases which you can smell but not see. Although minute particles definitely pose a danger to our health, the toxic gases seep into our living spaces much more easily and both of which we must eliminate. Besides that, here are some other helpful tips to reduce the discomfort and keep illness at bay.

When indoors, keep the doors and windows closed. Parents are encouraged to use the fan or air-conditioning to ensure the ambient temperature is kept cool and comfortable at around 24°C. The filters of air-conditioner have to be cleaned regularly for it to function at an optimal level. All those hours enclosed in a room will surely feel stuffy. Avoid the discomfort by using a product that removes particles, oxidises toxic gases, and sterilizes surfaces. You and your loved ones would benefit from Medklinn’s Air+Surface Sterilizers!

Meet the 3-part Process Medklinn’s Air+Surface Sterilizers

The patented Cerafusion™ Technology creates Active Oxygen which oxidizes toxic gases that make up major danger components of haze naturally and without chemicals. This function eliminates up to 99.99% of pollutants and it is a feature that is uncommon in conventional air purifiers/filters.

Parents would be pleased to know that Medklinn Air+Surface Sterilizers are scientifically tested to eliminate upto 99.99% of all known bacteria, viruses, allergens, mould, and Volatile Organic Compounds.1 Broadly speaking, it reduces sinus allergies, bad smells, and cross infections by sterilizing your air and surfaces in a natural manner.
